Q. Who is DS Bigham?

Assistant Professor of Linguistics at San Diego State University. You can find him on Facebook,, and YouTube.

Professor Bigham's research in sociolinguistics looks at how "emerging adults" interpret different dialects—how we hear them, what they signifiy for us, who we think has them or doesn't, etc. He focuses on the ways that intergroup cooperation and conflict can give linguistic variation meaning and on the importance of recognizing sexuality as one aspect of the diverse range of human genders. He takes a digital humanities approach to understanding linguistics with an emphasis on linguistic performance.
