DS Bigham, Portfolio for Words

I am a writer. I'm not bad with [graphic design]<c1|, but writing is my life.(click-append: "writing is my life.")[
I've written [academic journal articles]<c2|, client copy, instructional manuals, multimedia textbooks, and popular essays. I've even written some short fiction and narrative non-fiction.(click-append: "short fiction and narrative non-fiction.")[ …but fair warning— it can get a little blue over on [my blog]<c3|.]]
I'm also [[a great editor]].
(click: ?c3)[

MULTIMEDIA CONTENT
I've written scores of website content— everything from educational content to party promotions; I've written scripts for very widely-used chatbots; I was the Editor-in-Chief of a digital magazine for linguistics, and I've also developed a successful YouTube series for teaching linguistics. I also teach children how to create their own languages. Seriously, I know words like you wouldn't believe.]
(click: ?c2)[

NARRATIVE DESIGN
Along with the WebVR storyboarding, I also have experience in ludological narrative (aka, game design). Most recently, I've been exploring collaborative narrative with one narrative card game that tells a story starting at the end, and a map-building tabletop game that's in prototyping.…(click-replace: "…")[
…I also have a trick-collecting card game in its testing phase, but that's more focused on character design than narrative.]]
(click: ?c1)[

TECHNICAL CONCEPT WRITING
Explaining difficult and esoteric concepts in a way that everyone can understand is a skill. Outside of my marketing pieces, I've written about how language and society interact for Salon.com, written about digital literacy for web agencies, and told people how chatbots and conversational interfaces work at SXSW. I'm also an "expert on file" for issues of language, gender, and sexuality for MTV News.]

I was with Four Kitchens, LLC, as a "Content Specialist" for 18 months. During that time, I was the primary writer for [website copy]<c1|, site launch announcements, case studies, podcast scripts, webinar scripts, content marketing campaigns, white papers, and I developed the narrative and storyboard for their company VR experience.
(click: ?c1)[
Website Copy: Four Kitchens wanted a fresh take on its web copy, in a tone that conveyed both expertise and mild snark, while ensuring that plenty of long-tail keywords and semantic-adjacencies were there for SEO. I modeled the copy of each page to fit with the voice of the Director who appears in the page's call to action. For example, on "Services" each section has a pop-culture-referencing H2 to fit with Todd's style, while the "Process" page is more cut-and-dried to match Suzy's approach to management. For SEO, the client requested some basic keyword-stuffing, which we developed into a "glossary of terms" that appears at the bottom of each Services page.
Likewise, the new tagline, "We make content go." was an idea that I modeled off of the fast-paced cover of the children's book Go, Dog. Go! to match Four Kitchens' cutting-edge leadership in Drupal development.]

I've been a developmental editor for educational and corporate websites, a reviewing editor for academic journals, and a proofreader for both; my full CV is available on my Academia.edu profile. I also know my way around InDesign and can cook up a mean ePub if you're into that sort of thing.
